Hugo Vandenberghe



Mr. Hugo Vandenberghe holds degrees as doctor of law (KU Leuven 1966) summa cum laude, as well as degrees in notarial practice and in higher education (1970). He is emeritus professor of the Leuven Faculty of Law where he has been teaching civil law for 37 years. He has been a Senator for 19 years. He was the vice-chairman of the Belgian Senate. As Senator, he acted inter alia as chairman of the Justice Committee, and member of the Security Services Control Committee. From 1984 to 1990, he was a member of the European Commission on Human Rights in Strasbourg. Mr. Vandenberghe is a member of the Brussels Bar since 1971. From 2012 to 2014, he was the president of Brussel Bar (Dutch speaking section). He has authored several publications in the field of property law, civil liability and human rights.
